All the kids in the family have day jobs:
⢠Willie Jr. drives a forklift in Tupelo
⢠Abel Aquirius drives hospital patients to their appointments
⢠Anjessica works in customer care for an insurance company
⢠Toni is an elementary school teacher
⢠Deborah does hair (and sheās available if youāre ever in West Point)
⢠Annie runs a clothing store on Main Street called Caldwell Fashions, which has been a beloved staple for women dressing for COGIC (Church Of God In Christ) convocations and anniversaries since the ā80s. Caldwell Fashions is open five days a week & by appt.
Canāt Lose My (Soul) was produced by Ahmed Gallab, aka the artist Sinkane.
Gallab said of the Caldwells: āHearing Annieās voice for the first time was like witnessing something rare, like youāre in the presence of a force of nature thatās been here long before you. And working with Deborah was like tapping into pure fire. Sheās feisty, no doubt! The tough love that these girls gave each other. Calling each other out when one wasnāt in key. It was pretty funny.ā
The album cover art is from the film All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt by Raven Jackson. Liner notes were written by the former EIC of Oxford American, Danielle Amir Jackson. In November 2024, they played a killer show at Le Guess Who?, which was reviewed in MOJO: āTheir rhythm section (dad and two sons) would give the Family Stone a run for its money; the front line (mum and daughters) have unquenchable sass and spirituality, and the crowd doesnāt need persuading to crash the stage and be saved by (the) songs.ā
FYI, this will be the only variant.
ANNIE & THE CALDWELLS are a family that plays a powerful disco soul from West Point, Mississippi, led by Annie Caldwell (who sings) and her husband of the last fifty years Willie Joe Caldwell, Sr. (who plays guitar).
Annie is backed by daughters Deborah Caldwell Moore [Pronounced de-BOR-ah, or BORA, not debra, you white ass] and Anjessica Caldwell and goddaughter Toni Rivers; their eldest son Willie Jr. is on the bass and youngest son Abel Aquirius is on the drums.
Canāt Lose My (Soul) is their new album 40 years in the making ⦠and itās already gotten rave reviews in MOJO and The Guardian even before itās been announced.
